Under the Global Climate Change Alliance Plus (GCCA+) Programme, overseen by the SADC Secretariat, SAIIA has implemented the project “Strengthening Marine and Coastal Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) in the National Climate Responses of SADC’s Coastal States.” Through this project a regional EbA Community of Practice has been established to enhance knowledge sharing and uptake of marine and coastal EbA both in policy and practice. This video captures key lessons from members of this Community of Practice, highlighting the challenges facing coastal communities in the region, and what opportunities EbA presents to enhance coastal climate resilience in SADC.
Coastal and island countries in Southern Africa are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) can help enhance climate resilience for coastal communities in the region. However, several challenges inhibit the uptake of EbA. This podcast series discusses these challenges as well as the opportunities that marine and coastal EbA poses for countries within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The podcast is hosted by the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), funded by the European Union under the Global Climate Change Alliance Plus Programme (GCCA+), overseen by the SADC Secretariat. It forms part of a project that aims to strengthen the uptake of marine and coastal EbA in the national climate responses of SADC’s coastal states.
