This theme explores the varying fiscal and monetary responses African countries have undertaken to address the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most African countries have deployed fiscal stimulus packages particularly for vulnerable households and businesses, put in place tax relief measures and increased liquidity support. However, preliminary evidence has shown that the responses fall significantly short of steps taken by their counterparts in the developed world.
