This is the first major renovation to the interior of the building since its completion in 1960.
The official opening coincided with the annual meeting of the Institute’s National Council and so enabled council members to join staff in witnessing this important event in the 75th Anniversary calendar. The ribbon was cut by Deputy National Chairman, Elisabeth Bradley, who is also the Chairman of the 75th Anniversary Campaign Steering Committee and a generous donor to the project.
National Chairman, Fred Phaswana, thanked her for her invaluable contribution to the organisation over three decades and for her unrelenting dedication to the promotion of SAIIA’s vision and mission.
The refurbishment is one of four key projects in the SAIIA 75th anniversary campaign that aims to raise some R6 million before the end of the jubilee year. The proceedings ended with a tour of the building by National Council members followed by a light lunch with staff.
