Questions linger on South Africa’s neutrality in Russia-Ukraine conflict

South Africa stands accused of supplying weapons to Russia, even though the country has always maintained a non-aligned position in the Russia-Ukraine war. In this interview with Radio 702, the head of SAIIA’s African Governance and Diplomacy Programme, Steven Gruzd, says it makes it more difficult to maintain a posture of neutrality if South Africa is indeed supplying arms to Russia.

SAIIA’s leading experts are available for interviews in person or virtually. We can also arrange for press to conduct interviews on-site at our headquarters in Johannesburg or at our Cape Town office.
The views expressed are those of the interviewees and do not necessarily reflect the views of the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA).
