Belarus receives tactical nuclear weapons from Russia

The president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko says his country has now received three tactical nuclear weapons from Russia. According to President Lukashenko, the bombs are three times more powerful than the bombs used by the Americans on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. In this SAFM interview, SAIIA’s Senior Researcher Gustavo De Carvalho says Russia’s deployment of nuclear weapons to Belarus in the midst of the war with Ukraine is certainly a show of force.

SAIIA’s leading experts are available for interviews in person or virtually. We can also arrange for press to conduct interviews on-site at our headquarters in Johannesburg or at our Cape Town office.
