The 24 August 2023 marked the third and final day of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. On the second day of the summit, the manner and nature of the expansion of the BRICS bloc topped the agenda. In this interview with World Is One News, SAIIA’s Head of the African Governance and Diplomacy Programme Steven Gruzd says 23 countries made formal applications to join, while over 40 have expressed interest in joining the bloc.
