The BRICS Summit economic meetings

China’s President Xi Jinping said the BRICS countries should keep to the direction of peaceful development, and consolidate the bloc’s strategic partnership in his remarks at the 15th BRICS Summit. President Jinping was also among the BRICS leaders who took part in a closed session during day two of the summit. In this interview with CGTN America, SAIIA’s Chief Executive Elizabeth Sidiropoulos says the Chinese president’s speech must be seen in the broader context that he was also in South Africa for a state visit. According to Sidiropolous, the speech resonated with many quarters in South Africa.
