UN’s role in resolving Israel-Hamas conflict

Israeli diplomats are calling for the resignation of UN Secretary General, António Guterres, accusing him of being pro-Hamas. This comes after Guterres addressed the United Nations Security Council during an open debate on the situation in the Middle East, where he said that the October 7 Hamas attack did not happen in a vacuum. In this Newzroom Afrika interview, SAIIA’s Senior Researcher Gustavo De Carvalho says the Israel-Hamas conflict is one of the most divisive issues since the beginning of the creation of the United Nations.
