US Secretary of State Rubio drops bombshell, won’t attend G20 Summit in SA, cites ‘anti-Americanism’

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that he will not attend the G20 summit in Johannesburg, casting doubts on South Africa’s ability to preside over this major international forum. Responding to Rubio’s criticism, SAIIA Chief Executive Elizabeth Sidiropoulos said South Africa was not going to change its entire G20 agenda to accommodate the US, but it might need to recalibrate in some way.

SAIIA’s leading experts are available for interviews in person or virtually. We can also arrange for press to conduct interviews on-site at our headquarters in Johannesburg or at our Cape Town office.
