Ohiocheoya Omiunu is a visiting British Academy Research Fellow at SAIIA, working with the Climate and Natural Resources Programme. He completed his PhD on the external economic relations of sub-national governments at the University of Liverpool. He is an Associate Professor of International Economic Law at the University of Kent (Canterbury) and a Senior Research Associate in the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Johannesburg.
He is an editor of Afronomicslaw.org and director of the Afronomicslaw Academic Forum, which supports students and early-career researchers working on international economic law in Africa and the Global South. He also co-convenes the African Paradiplomacy Network, focusing on the internationalisation of African subnational governments, and serves on the Academic Circle advising the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development.
His research takes an interdisciplinary approach to international economic law, engaging with development, international relations and political economy, with a focus on how subnational and non-state actors shape economic governance and integration at regional and global levels.
