African Governance Topic Talk: A Focus on Youth

The African Union’s 2018 theme: “Winning the Fight Against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation”, offers a strategic opportunity to encourage citizens to play their part in good governance.

It is against this backdrop that the APRM, in collaboration with the SAIIA and the TMF, are co-hosting a topic talk aimed at educating young people about the APRM, governance issues pertinent to young Africans and the 2018 AU theme of anti-corruption.

Key note address by: Honorable Brigitte Mabandla, Chairperson of the APRM Panel of Eminent Person

Honorable Brigitte Mabandla is currently the Chair of the National Orders Advisory Council since 2014. Also serving as Member of the Legislative Review Committee which reviews all Bills introduced into parliament and reports on the impact of the Bills on personal rights and liberties. Hon. Mabandla had been serving as an APR Panel of Eminent Persons member since 2017 and was newly elected as the Chairperson of the APR Panel of Eminent Persons at the APRM Forum Heads of State at the Summit held in Addis Ababa in January 2018. Having served as a Member of Parliament of South Africa from 1994 to 2009 and held senior government portfolios as the Minister of Housing from 2003 to 2004; Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development from 2004 to 2008 and Minister of Public Enterprises from 2008 to 2009. She holds an LLB degree from the University of Zambia (1979).
