Ahead of the World Trade Organization (WTO) 14th Ministerial Conference in Cameroon, SAIIA, in partnership with the Remaking Trade Project, ODI Global, Trade Negotiations and Investment Forum, the International Relations Institute of Cameroon and the Forum on Trade, Environment & the SDGs will convene a high-level workshop on 24 and 25 March 2026.
Bringing together policymakers, regional institutions, leading trade experts and partners, the workshop will explore how Africa can shape WTO reform to advance sustainability, equity and development priorities.
WTO Director-General Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala will open the event in conversation with Yale Law School Professor Dan Esty.
Discussions will:
- Examine governance and institutional reform to enhance inclusiveness and restore trust in the multilateral system;
- Assess fairness, special and differential treatment, subsidies and policy space from a development perspective; and
- Address climate-related trade measures, digital trade and emerging technologies through an equity-informed lens.
The outcomes of this workshop will inform our engagement on the Africa trade agenda in the G20 and other forums and contribute to longer-term thinking on reforming the multilateral trading system.
- Please note that this event is by invitation only.
