The aim of the roundtable was to facilitate a discussion between diverse stakeholders including policymakers and civil society on the key challenges facing Africa’s data governance linked to the digital economy.

The South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) and Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA) hosted a closed roundtable event on the theme ‘Data governance and the Digital Economy in Africa: where are we now, what are the challenges and where do we go from here?.’ The roundtable presented the findings of three recent research reports published by CSEA which explore various aspects of a digital eco-system for sound data governance towards enabling Africa’s digital economy.

This roundtable sought to initiate further knowledge in this area, map out what is already known, and distil the issues that are most urgent to address.
