In an era marked by increased geopolitical instability, conflicts and a worsening climate crisis, the contemporary world is an ever more uncertain place. Multilateralism, sovereignty and development assistance are under threat like never before. How do states navigate this fluid and dangerous international ecosystem? Can recent high-level meetings in Japan and South Africa provide a path to overcoming these problems?
Experts from Japan and South Africa will principally explore how to tackle key global challenges, reflecting and drawing on the lessons and outcomes of both TICAD 9, the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development, held from 20 to 22 August 2025 in Yokohama, Japan and the 20th G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, held from 22 to 23 November 2025.
