Protecting human rights in a changing world

The South African Institute of International Affairs in collaboration with the European Union cordially invite you to Dialogue on Protecting Human Rights in a changing world: Challenges and best practice from an EU perspective.

The dialogue will be addressed by Mr Stavros Lambrinidis, the European Union Special Representative for Human Rights since September 2012. Prior to this he was the Foreign Affairs Minister of Greece. Between 2004 and 2011, he was elected Member of the European Parliament (MEP) with the Greek Social Democratic Party (PASOK). He served as Vice-President of the European Parliament, Vice-President of the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) Committee, and Head of the PASOK Delegation. Between 2000 and 2004, he was Director-General of the International Olympic Truce Centre, He served as Ambassador ad personam of the Hellenic Republic, Secretary-General of the Greek Foreign Ministry, responsible for Expatriate Greeks, and chief-of-staff to the Greek Foreign Minister. Prior to this he worked as an Attorney at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, D.C. specialising in international trade, transactions, and arbitration.
