Join us for a thought-provoking online seminar on 23 March 2023, exploring the role of non-alignment in the Global South amid increasing geopolitical tensions worldwide.

The South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) is proud to host this critical event, bringing together experts, practitioners, and policymakers from around the world to discuss pressing issues and challenges related to non-aligned positions in the Global South.

As the world grapples with the aftermath of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the ensuing geopolitical tensions, the relevance of non-alignment in the Global South has become increasingly important. However, there are different views on what non-alignment means and what it can achieve. Some argue that non-alignment is a tool for the Global South to enhance its agency and navigate a polarised world. In contrast, others question its effectiveness in the face of global power dynamics.

Against this backdrop, this online seminar provides a platform for experts and practitioners to critically reflect on the concept of non-alignment and its implications for the Global South. Our panel of experts will share their insights and engage in a lively discussion with the audience, exploring best practices and recommendations for policymakers. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to learn from leading experts and contribute to a more nuanced and informed understanding of non-alignment in the Global South.
