In October 2025, South Africa met the requirements to be removed from the FATF grey list, less than three years after its listing in February 2023. This is one of the fastest turnarounds among recent African delistings. But as the former Commissioner of the South African Police Service Edward Kieswetter put it, the delisting is “a milestone, not a finish line.”
Our discussion will focus on:
- The economic costs of greylisting and the long-term gains of delisting may unlock.
- The persistent enforcement gap that could jeopardise these gains.
- Looking ahead to South Africa’s next mutual evaluation.
- Strategic implications for South Africa’s partners, including Korea’s deepening economic engagement.
