Join SAIIA's Western Cape branch to unpack the opportunities presented by South Africa's G20 presidency.

With South Africa being the first African country to assume the G20 presidency in 2025 comes a unique opportunity to rethink global trade and technology dynamics, particularly within the context of Africa’s economic integration and digital transformation. In particular is the establishment of a task force on artificial intelligence (AI), data governance, and innovation for sustainable development under President Cyril Ramaphosa. The presidency provides an influential policy-making arena where South Africa can align its national priorities with global development goals in trade, technology and innovation which can be echoed across the continent but also faces geopolitical tensions arising in both the Global North and Global South.
