Please join us for a discussion on global development finance institutions and their regulatory framework.

Over the last year, the need for reform of the international financial institutions has dominated discussions at the G20, the Paris financing summit and the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) meetings to name a few.

In a new book, Prof Daniel Bradlow explores international development finance institutions, including the IMF, World Bank, and regional development banks, and provides a detailed overview of the legal frameworks within which these institutions were established and operate and which structure their relationships with their member states and their citizens.

Bradlow’s book outlines the state of international organisational law and the international law applicable to international financial transactions in the inter-war years and the Bretton Woods Conference at which the treaties establishing the IMF and the World Bank were concluded. It also discusses the Articles of Agreement of the IMF and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and provides information on their governance arrangements, mandates, and operating principles. The book concludes by exploring the challenges that international financial institutions are currently facing, and the contributions that international law can make to help them successfully meet these challenges.
