Join SAIIA’s Western Cape branch on 23 February for a timely discussion on agency, influence and how China’s rise is reshaping the meaning of “development”.

As Africa faces a radically shifting global order, China’s role as an alternative driver of development is becoming more important. But what makes China such a unique partner, and how should African countries manage its growing global influence? Cobus van Staden, a former lead analyst of China-Africa relations for SAIIA and the head of research at The China-Global South Project, unpacks how African countries can get what they want from the relationship and how China’s rise changes the meaning of “development” itself.

Speakers

  • Dr Cobus van Staden, Head of Research, The China-Global South Project
  • Sanusha Naidu, Senior Research Fellow, Institute for Global Dialogue

Refreshments will be served before the event.

Entrance is free for SAIIA members
