President Cyril Ramaphosa and other African leaders are expected to travel to Russia and Ukraine to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky. This is in an attempt to broker a peace deal to end the ongoing conflict between the two neighbouring nations. In this interview with Newzroom Africa, SAIIA’s Senior Researcher Gustavo De Carvalho says the recent counteroffensive by Ukraine makes a difficult scenario for serious conversations between Ukraine and Russia.
