BRICS countries continue to retain their independence

Some political analysts have assessed that the BRICS nations may adopt a more obvious anti-Western stance, but South Africa, India, and Brazil have all expressed that they hope to maintain close relations with traditional Western partners. In this interview with World Journal, SAIIA’s Senior Researcher Gustavo De Carvalho says member countries ‘continue to retain their independence, and they can prioritize themselves on diplomatic and international trade issues of national interest’.

SAIIA’s leading experts are available for interviews in person or virtually. We can also arrange for press to conduct interviews on-site at our headquarters in Johannesburg or at our Cape Town office.
The views expressed are those of the interviewees and do not necessarily reflect the views of the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA).
