US Ambassador Reuben Brigety accused South Africa of sending weapons to Russia in December. The ambassador claimed that a Russian ship, the Lady R, was loaded with ammunition and arms in Cape Town. In an interview with Monocle, SAIIA’s Senior Researcher Gustavo de Carvalho says very little is publicly known about the incident as the government’s approach has been defensive.
