G20 summit: How India put the Global South in the spotlight

World leaders flocked to Delhi to participate in the G20 summit set for 9–10 September 2023, as a culmination of India’s year-long presidency of the Group of 20 leading nations. India has spent the past year marketing itself as a bridge between the Global North and the Global South. In this interview with the Christian Science Monitor, SAIIA’s Chief Executive, Elizabeth Sidiropoulos, says India made “real efforts to include African voices, not just from South Africa.”

SAIIA’s leading experts are available for interviews in person or virtually. We can also arrange for press to conduct interviews on-site at our headquarters in Johannesburg or at our Cape Town office.
The views expressed are those of the interviewees and do not necessarily reflect the views of the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA).
