Plane carrying SA journalists and security personnel back home

Authorities in Poland refused over 120 South African presidential security guards and journalists permission to disembark from an aircraft for 26 hours. The plane was supposed to accompany President Cyril Ramaphosa to Ukraine and Russia on a peace mission. In this SAFM interview, SAIIA’s Senior Researcher Gustavo De Carvalho describes Poland’s decision not to allow journalists to follow South Africa’s presidency to Ukraine and Russia as “quite worrisome”.

SAIIA’s leading experts are available for interviews in person or virtually. We can also arrange for press to conduct interviews on-site at our headquarters in Johannesburg or at our Cape Town office.
The views expressed are those of the interviewees and do not necessarily reflect the views of the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA).
