Russia-Africa Summit attracts fewer African heads of state

Only 17 African heads of state, or less than half of the 44 leaders who attended the first Russia-Africa summit in 2019, attended the Russian-Africa summit in St. Petersburg. In this interview with Newzroom Afrika, SAIIA’s Senior Researcher Gustavo De Carvalho while it was expected that the attendance would be less, there’s a challenge with countries competing to attract more heads of state to summits.
