Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to miss the BRICS Summit in South Africa

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin will not be coming to South Africa in person for the BRICS Summit, following months of speculation. The South African presidency announced that the decision had been made by mutual agreement. In this SAFM panel discussion, SAIIA’s Senior Researcher Gustavo De Carvalho says the announcement comes as a relief for South Africa as there were too many risks involved in President Putin’s visit to the country.

SAIIA’s leading experts are available for interviews in person or virtually. We can also arrange for press to conduct interviews on-site at our headquarters in Johannesburg or at our Cape Town office.
