SADC leaders are participating in an extraordinary summit in Malawi

SADC leaders are participating in an extraordinary summit in Malawi to review the deployment of soldiers in Mozambique. Special forces of South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana and Lesotho have been deployed since July last year to fight against insurgents in northern Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado. When the regional leaders met in October last year, they agreed to extend the SADC mission in Mozambique deployment until January 15. Steven Gruzd, Head: African Governance and Diplomacy Programme at South African Institute of International Affairs weighs in on what to expect from the summit.
