Job opportunity: Project Manager for SAIIA Futures Programme

SAIIA seeks to appoint a Project Manager for the SAIIA Futures Programme for an upcoming project in South Africa.

Project Manager: SAIIA Futures Programme (No: PMSFP21) – One-year contract

The project funded, by the UK Partnership for Accelerating Climate Transitions (UK PACT), will provide capacity building and technical assistance to key government departments, business and civil society on the emerging green hydrogen economy. The position will be aimed at supporting emissions reductions, just energy transitions, energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate change adaptation initiatives, and just labour transitions. This facility will be aligned with South Africa’s Energy Master Plan and Green Economy strategy and is to contribute to inclusivity specifically with respect to unemployment and gender equality.

This position is based in Cape Town; however, regular regional and international travel is anticipated.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Developing detailed Project Implementation Plan including assessments, schedule and budget phasing, ensuring alignment with the Futures programme and the funders’ framework and consortium partners’ plans.
  • Developing Stakeholder Engagement and Communication Plan along with the funder including engagement of primary actors and of SAIIA Futures Focus Areas, and areas for policy influence.
  • Identifying, assessing and planning responses to risks including safeguarding, safety and security.
  • Providing ongoing professional and personal support to the project team.
  • Developing and periodically reviewing agreements with project and consortium partners.
  • Representing SAIIA in relevant stakeholder networks, technical working groups, and SAIIA’s Research Focus and delivering evidence-based policy messages
  • Working with Programme Lead on Monitoring delivery of Project Implementation Plan and expenditure against phasing, and managing the variance between plan and reality
  • Working with Programme Lead on Periodically reviewing, analysing, and evaluating progress against indicators
  • Working with Programme Lead and Administration Lead on Developing narrative and budget reports
  • Supporting programme coordination, design, funding calls and proposal writing, business pursuit, resourcing, evaluation, review, learning, and visibility.

Experience, skills, qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in economics, environmental studies, futures studies, international and community development, business development, or a related field, a relevant Master’s degree is preferable.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in working in related development projects, of which at least 2 years in a managing role.
  • Experience in project management: planning, leading and managing people, risk management, monitoring and control.
  • Experience in engaging stakeholders of different sectors, cultures, and from community-level primary actors to colleagues at international level
