Job Opportunity: Youth Programme Finance Coordinator

The Institute is looking to appoint a Programme Finance Coordinator who is committed to the financial and operational functions of Youth@SAIIA’s growing programmes.

For over a decade, the Youth Programme at the South African Institute of International Affairs (Youth@SAIIA) has been working to mobilise and capacitate children and youth (13-25 years) across South Africa to become more active citizens and effectively participate in decision-making processes that affect their lives.

SAIIA seeks to make the following appointment:

Programme Finance Coordinator – Youth Programmes (PFC/0824) | 1-Year Contract | Salary band based on experience (R420k-R480k.a)

We are looking to appoint a dynamic person who is committed to youth development to manage the financial and operational functions of Youth@SAIIA’s growing programmes. The successful applicant must be able to manage a complex and multi-faceted workload. This position reports to the Head of Youth Programmes and is based at SAIIA’s head office in Johannesburg.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management

  • Manage all accounting and internal financial control systems for Youth@SAIIA’s programmes;
  • Ensure the effective and accurate reporting of all Youth-related donor reports based on agreed donor requirements, timelines and templates;
  • Monitor transaction mapping from the grant management report produced by the Finance team monthly to ensure that they align with the work plan and donor-approved budget lines;
  • Ensure that work plans are balanced monthly and liaise with the Finance team to ensure corrections are made, if necessary;
  • Update the forecasts and produce the annual budget for the Youth programme based on the schedule defined by the Finance team;
  • Work with programme manager to ensure that all donor reports are finalised;
  • Compliance assurance, record management and timely submission of financial reports to donors;
  • Compliance with all SAIIA financial and other policies; and
  • Provide support to the Head of Youth and other staff members with fundraising by providing support to develop budgets for during the proposal development process.

Operations Management

  • Develop and implement effective administration procedures for Youth@SAIIA programmes, events and activities;
  • Provide support for logistics and coordination of large events, meetings and conferences hosted by Youth@SAIIA; and
  • Together with the Head of Youth Programmes, ensure that Youth@SAIIA’s monitoring and evaluation requirements are met.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience with small to large-scale project/programme management in a developing country context;
  • Demonstrated experience with financial management tools and systems, including a high level of proficiency with Excel;
  • NPO/NGO experience with donor reporting experience (2-3 years), including international donors.
  • Good planning and organisational skills;
  • Good management and interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse team;
  • Assist with fundraising, proposal budgets and reporting to donors; and
  • Driver’s licence with own vehicle.
