Chinese Migration in Africa

With all the scholarly and media interest in the China/Africa relationship of late, it is somewhat surprising that so little has been written about Chinese migrants in Africa.

What little is published in media reports often presents the Chinese in increasingly confusing, inaccurate and negative ways. This report seeks to address the misperceptions and the gaps, bringing together information from the few existing empirical studies on Chinese migrants in various African countries; these are supplemented by ongoing research currently being undertaken by the Chinese in Africa/Africans in China research working group and other independent scholars.
