US absence at SA’s G20 Summit threatens to upend Ramaphosa’s agenda

SAIIA chief executive, Elizabeth Sidiropoulos, tells Daily Maverick that there was no precedent for a G20 member being absent from the leaders’ summit. She proposes that South Africa can manoeuvre the US absence through a “declaration by consensus of those countries present at the meeting”, inspired by ministerial working group declarations.

SAIIA’s leading experts are available for interviews in person or virtually. We can also arrange for press to conduct interviews on-site at our headquarters in Johannesburg or at our Cape Town office.
