Russia has expanded its influence in African countries in recent years; however, the South African Institute of International Affairs’ (SAIIA) Steven Gruzd cautions that the country’s influence should not be exaggerated in this Red Press article. In recent years, Russian media have expanded to include French and Arabic channels, which Gruzd argues is Russia’s attempt to present itself as an ally of Africa through these channels while discrediting the West.
