Following a series of national workshops, dialogues, and conferences, hundreds of young people from all over South Africa, representing over 150 organisations, schools, university groups and communities, have been working for over a year to develop SA YGAP and it is now here.
The SA YGAP will serve as a guide for government, policymakers, youth, civil society, businesses, academia, and other stakeholders to inspire youth-led gender action across the country. The SA YGAP, developed by young people and led by the Youth Policy Committee and convened by Youth@SAIIA, is anchored by the vision of what a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable future should be in South Africa, one that brings to life the principles laid out in the South African Constitution, along with clear actions required to ensure that vision becomes a reality.
The SA YGAP is divided into seven core pillars ranging from Gender-Based Violence, to Gender and Identity, to Gender and Sustainable Transformation, among other cross cutting themes.
This document was handed over to officials from the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, and UN Women South Africa Multi-Country Office and launched on 25 August 2023 at SAIIA in Johannesburg.
