SAJIA Volume 32.4 is available to read on the Taylor and Francis website. Several articles are free to view through February 2026, and others are open access. This special issue marks 30 years of South African democracy and reflects on the evolution, challenges, and future trajectory of South African foreign policy in a volatile global landscape. Bringing together insights from leading scholars and practitioners, it examines the country’s strategic positioning, its role in peace and security, and the impact of domestic politics on its international engagement. The issue highlights South Africa’s efforts to balance non-alignment with coalition governance, its contributions to African agency, and its ongoing – if inconsistent – pursuit of principled, reformist diplomacy amid rising geopolitical tensions and shifting global alliances. A number of informative and thought-provoking book reviews are included.
