Conrad van Gass is a Development Economist contracted to SAIIA as an Associate Research Fellow. The prime focus of his research at SAIIA has been African fiscal, monetary and trade policy for building macroeconomic resilience. His work is pertinent to the Think20 taskforces dealing with i) inequalities, poverty and hunger, (ii) reform of the international finance architecture and (iii) trade and investment for sustainable development. He has published on the nexus between trade, food security and industrial development through The African Continental Free Trade Area and on fiscal and monetary resilience in 12 African countries. He holds a Masters in Applied Development Economics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa and has previously worked in the fields of infrastructure finance and intergovernmental fiscal policy.
