Joseph Upile Matola is an associate economist who works in the Economic Diplomacy Programme at SAIIA. His work with SAIIA has focused on a various economic policy-related issues including Africa’s green recovery from the COVID-19 shock, industrial policy and trade in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area, and an analysis of economic vulnerabilities in selected African countries. Joseph holds a PhD in Development Economics from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Japan.
